Google Search Console bulk data export to Google BigQuery

Google Search Console bulk data export to Google BigQuery

Did you know that you can export your data from Google Search Console to your BigQuery and based on it you can create a custom dashboard in Looker Studio based on this data? Let me show you how!

But first of all, check out the video tutorial:

BigQuery setup

First of all to export the data, we need to have our Google Cloud (BigQuery) and Google Search Console open and we need to log in.

Then we check in Google Cloud whether our API and services are enabled. You can do it this way:

  1. Click on the menu next to the Google Cloud logo
  2. Move to the section “APIs and services”
  3. Click on “Enabled APIs and services”
  1. Now you are at the API and services page. Click on “Enable APIs and services”. You will be transferred to API library
  2. In the search field text BigQuery.
  3. We need “BigQuery API” and “Big Query Storage API”
  4. Check if these two APIs are enabled, in case they aren’t – click the button “Enable”

Connecting Google Search Console

You can connect Google Search Console in the same Google Cloud. Back to the menu (image 1), find “IAM & Admin”, and click “IAM”. There is going to appear a list of users who have access to your project.

Click the button “Grant Access” that is above the list.

Here is an important moment. To make everything without mistakes, it’s always good to have a “helper”. Thankfully, Google has a supportive manual that will help you connect your Google Search Console to Google Cloud.

You need to add a principal, [email protected], and grant it two roles – BigQuery Job User and BigQuery Data Editor. Then just click “Save”.

After saving, we need to open our Google Search Console page. Note that it can be done only from Google Search Console property’s owner account.

In the left sidebar in Google Search Console, find “Settings” and activate Bulk Data Export. Having it activated, check if your Google Cloud ID, Dataset name and Location in Google Search Console and BigQuery match.

That is it. The next day after the setup you will have your Google Search Console data exported to BigQuery. Pay attention to the fact that BigQuery doesn’t pull up the freshest data, it pulls up data 3-4 days before today.

In our template store you can find a report template that will give you a SEO overview based on Google Analytics and Google Search Console data.
