Looker Studio GA4 and Google Search Console SEO template overview

Looker Studio GA4 and Google Search Console SEO template overview

In this article I am going to present one of my Looker Studio report templates called GA4 and Google Search Console SEO template. You can find it in my template store, with a detailed description about the report.

Watch a video overview here:

Google Analytics 4. SEO template overview

Data sources

First of all, to create this dashboard I have used a “GA4 – Flood It!” demo account that you can easily obtain on the official website and also two more data sources such as Google Search Console sample data.

KPIs and sources

In the header of the dashboard there is a logo (you can replace it with yours), the name of the report, and a date range. By default I’ve set it up as a previous month to have full data.

The first section of the report is the Google Analytics section and usually I start all the reports like this one with KPIs. Consequently, here I have two rows of KPI scorecards: the first row contains scorecards with an “organic search” filter and the second row presents Organic traffic vs All website data. For the comparison of organic and all website data I use a blended data source that compares a standard GA4 data to the data with an organic filter.

Among organic traffic KPIs we have Sessions, Engaged sessions, Engagement rate, Sessions per user, Event count and Events per person. Talking about organic traffic and all website data, we have % of all sessions,  % of Engaged sessions, Difference of engagement rate, Difference in Sessions per user,  % of Event count, Difference of events per sessions. To create these KPIs I have used some custom formulas.

As you may have noticed, there are indicators that are showing the increase and decrease of the KPIs. Besides that, I have added sparklines to visually spectate the progress.

Then we have a time series chart that shows the sources your organic users come from. Analyzing this chart, we can see that most of the organic traffic comes from Google Play.

Organic traffic popular pages

Here we have completely the same metrics as before but split by pages.

Organic traffic sessions by page and month

Personally, I really like this pivot table and I find it super useful. Here we can see how the number of sessions on each page is changing month by month. Also, there Grand totals as for sessions per month, as for sessions per page.

Google Search Console. SEO template overview

The next section is dedicated to Google Search Console data. It has two properties – Website and URL data. In my report I have connected two of them.

General Overview

Google Search Console section starts with an overview. Here we can see main metrics and a time series chart with two y-axis that presents impressions and average position through the time.

The next chart is showing us the queries and we can see impressions, clicks, site CTR and Average Position for each query.

Google Search Console Device Overview

The next really useful thing Google Search Console can show is device data. Owing to the data given I have created two doughnut charts with impressions and Clicks split by devices. You can see more detailed information about device categories and the KPIs in the tablet on the right.

Google Search Console Geo Overview

Then we have a Geo Overview where we have a table with countries list and KPIs and a Geo chart with optional metrics – you can choose to show countries based on the impressions number, average position etc.

Google Search Console Landing Pages

The last part of this report and this section is about Google Search Console Landing Pages. Here we can see Impressions, URL Clicks and URL CTR for each landing page.

This report is pretty basic but still needs a quite broad knowledge of Looker Studio functionality and, obviously, requires time. If you want to save your time and have this report, you can buy it in my template store!
